Thoughts on Time Management
I was talking with someone earlier today about some things I have learned over the years about Time Management. After our discussion I reflected on what it all means. Time Management is life management. Time is the only thing we can really invest of ourselves in this life and once time is gone, life is gone.
For me there have been two very influential books. The first is First Things First, by Stephen Covey. The second compliments the first. It is Getting Things Done by David Allen. Why do I say these books compliment each other? Because they each have different focuses. FTF teaches you how to see what is most important in your life. Key concepts I use from Covey are the concepts of Roles, Mission, and Values. These things drive what I do. GTD on the other hand helps me get things done. Key concepts here are to close the loops, the two-minute rule, and have a system you can trust. Now these are obviously oversimplifications. But when I apply these life just gets better. I am being productive and on the right things. I have Success in Balance with the rest of my life.
What about you? What works for you? Have you found these books useful as well? Are there other books resources you use? Share them with others in our discussion area.
